Medication-induced hair loss

“We’ll go wig shopping together”

- My Doctor

I had started a new medication in 2022 and one of the many side effect was hair loss. My doctor assured me that it was not likely and if my hair did start to thin,“We’ll go wig shopping together”.

How insensitive! I was actually really concerned about this possibility.

About a month into taking the medication I noticed an excessive amount of hair falling out. By the third month I was done. My family said it wasn’t noticeable, but I could tell.

It wasn’t my hair anymore.

It felt different not only thinner but the texture had changed. So, I decided to stop taking the medication and cut all my hair off. I figured, I’d start fresh.

Extreme? Maybe.

Honestly, It was the best thing I could have done for myself.

**I did consult with my rheumatologist before stopping the medication**
